Bad design *updated*

Last nights first Gonal-F injection was painless. We did have one little problem though......
I forgot to prime (pushing out a little liquid to make sure the pen is working properly) the Gonal-F pen before I set it to 300 (my prescribed dose) and then I pulled out the injection button. So I just tried to reset the dose BUT it wouldn't move to a lower dose. I read the directions and it makes it sound like you can't reset it after pulling the out the injection button so you have to "discard the dose by pushing out the liquid into the safety container"???
I'm not going to waste 300 IU's of this expensive medication, so I just opened a brand new box and did it the right way. I have e-mail my nurse coordinator about my dilemma and she is going to talk to the Gonal-F rep. Hopefully she will tell me I don't have to prime the pen...that way nothing will go to waste. What a bad design...Follistim is so much easier to use!

*Updated*
At 5:30pm I still hadn't heard back from my coordinator so I took things into my own hands. I called the phone number on the Gonal-F box and to my surprise it was Fertility Lifelines. I spoke with an on-call nurse who walked me through how to fix my dilemma. I was amazed that it was that easy to get some answers. Thanks to Fertility Lifelines there will be no wasting medication!!

That design doesn't sound good at all! Here's hoping that what's inside the pen works great! Very exciting!

That's frustrating...I get so nervous with all the different crap we have to use, and the workings of them all. Hope the shots are going well though, when is your first monitoring appt? I start injects tomorrow night and I'm so excited/nervous, and then first monitoring appt on Tuesday!

Oh man, I've heard those shots can be tricky. That's all you need is one more thing to worry about, huh?

Glad it wasn't painful though!

I had this SAME problem when I donated my eggs. Those pens are tricky. I didn't even know there was a way to fix it!
