I am excited about TTC for the first time in a LONG time! Our RE appointment was fantastic. Dr. A is so great and knowledgeable. We started with the fluid ultrasound which didn't hurt at all. My uterus looked great, so no problems there. Then he did an ultrasound to check the antral follicle count. I had 15+ follicles on each ovary!! He gave me an "A"!!
We asked him a few questions about the process of IVF.
- Our concerned about DH's recent SA showed low morphology - Dr. A actually said that the morphology wasn't too bad, it is an issue but with IVF it can definitely be worked around.
- Would we need to do ICSI (single sperm is injected directly into an egg) because of the low morphology and does that cost extra? - Yes we would do ICSI on most of the embryos and it doesn't cost extra...yay!!
- When is the soonest we can proceed with IVF? April 2010!! I am pumped at the possibility of being pregnant soon!
- Do we qualify for Low Stim IVF? YES!!!! Since I have so many follicles he suggests doing low stim (less meds and monitoring). This cost much less than full blown IVF so of course I am thrilled. He strives for 15 follicle when doing low stim.
- Should we purchase a single, 2 or 3 cycle plan? He said since we are doing low stim it's cheaper to do (2) single cycle plans rather than the buy a multi-cycle plan. He is pretty confident we won't need more than one cycle. At first I was concerned that he just tells all of his patients this, but I have spoken to a few women that have gone to him and depending on their history some of them were told to buy multi-cycle plans because it might take a few times.
When Dr. A left the room I was jumping up and down with excitement. I usually cry at the RE's office, and this time DH and I couldn't wipe the smile off our faces.
I also had CD 3 blood work done. They took 8 vials!! That was the most blood I have ever given at one time.
We are waiting for the blood work results and DH's other half of his SA test(DNA fragmentation). I also have a financial consultation on Thursday and then by next week we should be signed up for the April cycle!!

Hi! I just came across your blog the other day. I'm at just about the same point with my IVF journey. I just had my day 3, FUS, follicle count and mock transfer. It looks like we'll be starting our first IVF in March/April as well. Sounds like things are going great for you so far! I wish you well!
YAYAYA!!!!! So was hoping for a great report from Dr. A!!! I wish our insurance still covered him... :-( So excited for you both and you'll be starting meds next month for April cycle, right??? WOW!!!!
This is great news! I can't wait to read all about it--especially since you'll be doing low stim. I've always been curious about that but have never met anyone who has gone through it.
I hope that one cycle is all you need to get your BFP! :)
Oh My God! This is so exciting I feel like jumping up and down for you. April is right around the corner... yay! 2010 will be your year, I know it =)
That is awesome! So exciting! I'm rooting for you!
That's great news! How great! I'll be checking in to see how it all goes.
That's so great!!!
Wow, I am so happy to see you are getting answers and moving forward, how wonderful!
You have an award on my page!
We are doing ivf because of low count and low morph. When we got the results we were told to go straight to ivf. We are in the midst of our first cycle and I have to say so far so good. It really hasn't been as bad as I was expecting. I hope you find the same results!
