Changes

I have been through A LOT of changes in the past month....

  • My dad died
  • Our 6th and last IUI failed
  • DH and I have decided to do IVF
  • I switched to a new RE!!

Let me explain why we decided go to a new RE. During our last IUI cycle with the old RE, I wasn't being treated with respect from the office manager ("financial lady"). She made many rude comments to me and made me feel uncomfortable in the office. That was enough to make me want to leave that office but I liked the RE until....... he denied me MY medical records. When I called to have them sent to my new RE for a second opinion his secretary put my RE himself on the phone!! He told me that I should talk to him 1st about my IVF options instead of sending my records elsewhere. I was annoyed but told him I would listen to what he had to say. A few days later DH and I had a meeting with him about IVF and I told him I would think about it, but that since we were going to spending SO much money I also wanted a second opinion. He told me that I didn't need to make any decisions until I found out the outcome of our IUI. Well we all know how that worked out!! 2 weeks ago set up another phone consult with the new RE, but he wanted my records from the old RE. This time I decided to fax a letter requesting my records be sent to the new RE. I figured this way I wouldn't have to talk to anyone....well I was wrong!! The secretary told me that they were going to charge me $40 (.48 per page & a $21 processing fee) to release the records to me. This cost required me to come get them from the office, they wouldn't even fax them!! I told them I was appalled that they would charge me for MY records and that I didn't need them that bad. They can keep my records just on principle. Thanks to this blog I have all my test results and will verbally tell the new RE anything he needs to know. So, long story longer I don't want to deal with that office anymore. They left a bad taste in my mouth and I am no longer considering them in my treatment plan.

The reason we are doing IVF is that we have exhausted all other options (6 IUI's). We are sad that it has come to this but we want a baby and feel that if we didn't try IVF we would always wonder if it would have worked. It sucks that our insurance doesn't pay a dime for IVF, but we are blessed that we have the money. I am such a "saver" and what better way to spend this money than on our dream of having a family. I know IVF is not for everyone, but our hearts are telling us it's for us.

I have my 2nd phone consult with the new RE on Monday. Depending on our conversation and when my period decides to start, I could be starting the IVF protocol BCP's as soon as Feb 8th!!

For those of you who have done IVF, do you have any suggestions for questions I should ask the RE???

I hope that things with your new RE work out and you feel more comfortable in that office. I can't believe that he gave you attitude in asking for your own records. Sheesh.

Ok that should be illegal to first deny you your medical records then to charge you for them. UGH! I'm glad you found a new RE though. I wish you the best of luck with IVF. You are always in my thoughts and prayers.

I would call the state medical board. Seriously. Its clear he is trying to get you to stay with him for the IVF which is why he won't release the records.

Never the less I am really excited for you and the new RE!! I hope he gets you those illusive 2 lines!

WOW! I can't believe your old office gave you such a hard time when you were trying to get your records!!

GL with your IVF cycle - sounds like you might be able to get started really soon :)

I bet if your new doctor called to request your records that they would send them to his office right away! That's the best way to get them fast and free! I'm so sorry you've been through so much and I hope that IVF is just what you need to become a mommy!

You'll be soon behind me! One good thing to ask the new RE is his success ratio's with his IVF's. In my city they have to disclose it. The best of luck!

I still cannot believe the gull of your old RE's office. I guess the receptionists comments were just the beginning of their tackiness.

Wow February 8th! That's so soon! Can't wait until you get started!

Wow that is awful about your old RE. I friend of mine was told the same thing by her first RE, and she was so frustrated and wanted to be done with them that she paid the $50 or whatever and never looked back!!

It sounds like you have alot of hope for the new RE- I pray that your next cycle is successful!!!

Wow, your old office sounds like a bunch of morons and assholes. I'm so sorry you had to deal with all of that. Hopefully this new RE will be a lot better to deal with. February 8th is right around the corner!!! I'll be pulling for you. :)

Man, your old RE's office sounds awful.

They should NEVER charge you to release records directly to another doctor. However, it's fairly common for doctors/hospitals to charge for a release of records to you.

Do you have Yelp where you live? It's like a search engine where you can look up and review ANY business (cafes, dry-cleaners, and doctors). Maybe you could write out what happened at your doctor so no one else has to go through it.

Your old RE office's behavior is horrible! I'm so glad you switched and I'm also glad you and hubby decided to try IVF.
I'm really not sure what suggestions to make in regards to questions, I'm sure your RE will give you all the info you will need. He should. I'm praying for you! Feb 8th is right around the corncer, good luck!
