After much consideration we have decided to do a second fresh IVF cycle, even though we 2 frozen embryos left from our first cycle. We don't want to waste time and money right now on embryos that we aren't sure are "good"....we will keep them frozen and use them later.
We will be doing PGD (Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis) testing on our embryos this cycle. That means on Day 3 after ER each embryo's 24 chromosomes are tested for specific genetic diseases or chromosomal abnormalities. This type of testing is the newest and most advanced technology and enables testing of all 24 chromosomes with results returned in time for transfer on Day 5 with no embryo freezing required. This testing helps to make sure we transfer good embryos.
PGD may be recommended for:
- Women aged 35 and older
- Recurrent miscarriages of unknown cause
- A previous child or pregnancy with a chromosomal abnormality
- Previous unsuccessful IVF cycles
It is expensive, but seems worth it to us at this point since after 6 IUI's, 1 fresh IVF & 1 FET we haven't had one pregnancy and this we need to find out if we have good embryos. We are keeping our fingers crossed!!
I am starting the Lupron shots on Wednesday, and my baseline U/S is on Oct. 22.
